We investigated the relationship between the size of the pancreas in non-insulin-dependent diabetic patients (NIDDs) and normal subjects, and also the possible correlation between pancreatic size in diabetics and basal C-peptide concentrations. Pancreatic tissue from Type 1 diabetic subjects was examined for the presence of a panel of common viruses. Frozen pancreatic sections from non-diabetic donors (n=8), type 2 diabetic patients (n=4), islet autoantibody-positive non-diabetic patients (n=3), type 1 diabetic patients (n=10) and one case of gestational diabetes were obtained via the network for Pancreatic Organ Donors. Western blot and immunohistochemical analyses revealed that BPRP levels were decreased in the hippocampal CA1 neurons of diabetic rats 4 and 8 weeks post-alloxan injection and in PC12 cells 48 h after exposure to high concentrations of glucose. The 1-year GSRs, by technique and source for 1984-88 PTA cases, were 58% for bladder-drained cadaver (n = 30), 51% for enteric-drained
Inhibition of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 reduces glycemia, sustains insulin levels, and reduces glucagon levels in type
a | A simplified overview of some of the more important regulatory networks of insulin and insulin-like growth factor (IGF) physiology is shown, although many aspects (such as the role of glucagon) are excluded. It is also not well known how insulin resistance and beta cell dysfunction influence serum insulin, proinsulin, proinsulin/insulin ratio in type 2 DM. Conventional clinical factors and fasting insulin levels were observed at baseline within the Japan Diabetes Clinical Data Management (JDDM) study between consecutive 2-year groups. Tritiated glucose was infused throughout the studies, and the oral glucose was labeled with [13C6]glucose for monitoring systemic and oral glucose kinetics, respectively. Baseline and postprandial active GLP-1 were increased by LAF237. Insulinemic response following a meal was negatively associated with the fraction of oleic acid in erythrocyte phospholipids. 77 +/- 5 pg/ml after; P = 0.001).
