Margaret L. ‘Peggy’ Inman

The Tour de Cure continues to be deeply personal and important to me. The engagement focuses on encouraging everyone to limit the amount of time they spend sitting by making sure they get up and get moving at least every 90 minutes throughout the work day. It just so happens that my dear friend runs the fund raising efforts in the state of Indiana, so I chose to support him. As usual, I’ll be riding with a special intention for a young man named Don Tomei  who lives in Hinsdale IL (he is my cousin’s son — see photo). I am committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event not because 29 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I personally know some of them, and I want to do something about it. Mike Pence, gave conflicting answers about whether the nominee’s immigration plan still includes mass deportations. It also establishes a clear and independent process for requesting an exception for step therapy protocols

It was Guy Fawkes Day 1952 and I was looking forward to joining the family at my uncle’s for a fireworks party in the evening. It is hoped the new research funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and carried out with the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will build on the already successful five-day Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating (DAFNE) training and education programme launched in the UK in 2002. Total costs and quality-adjusted life years were estimated from a National Health Service perspective over a lifetime horizon, discounted at a rate of 3.5%. It was more than 20 years ago and at that time ‘exchanges’ were the thing (an exchange was a unit of 10g of carbohydrate – if you’ve come across dafne this will already be sounding pretty familiar). A research project was launched in 1998, led by Heller (University of Sheffield, 1998-date), to develop effective models of training in the skills of insulin

But these changes may happen only after a person has been obese for a long time. Before the rise of the obesity epidemic, people with type 1 diabetes were generally distinguished as being lean and thin, whereas people with type 2 diabetes were identified as commonly being overweight or obese. Recent research shows that in some cases, certain genetic factors may cause the changes in appetite and fat metabolism that lead to obesity

The average American gets three colds a year, each lasting for nine to 14 miserable days, so it’s no surprise that we spend billions of dollars on over-the-counter cold and flu remedies annually. This means doctors, hospitals and laboratories must inform the Department of Health of your diagnosis. Mariska Fouche, spokesperson for Pharma Dynamics, one of SA’s leading providers of generic cold and flu medication, says when certain colds and flu drugs are taken in combination with other chronic medications, it could lead to serious complications. SugarBEAT – finally needle-free?

The trial, which began in San Diego, California in 2014, is underway in Edmonton under the watch of lead investigator Dr. I was 12 the day I was diagnosed, and my life changed forever. Traditionally thought of as an unavoidable part of treatment, injection therapy and the pain and discomfort it causes has become one of the major concerns of diabetes patients. The needle-free, transdermal device can give a continuous read of a patient’s glucose levels, which would be more efficient and less invasive for patients in hospital settings and in the daily ritual by diabetics of checking their levels. In our system, when glucose levels go up, the nanoparticles degrade to release insulin,” said study author Zhen Gu, from the joint department of biomedical engineering at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University. “Injection related side effects were reported more frequently by those individuals who received Affluria via the PharmaJet Stratis
