FULLY AUTOMATIC RISK ASSESSMENT OF DIABETIC RETINOPATHY IN DIGITAL FUNDUS IMAGES | IOVS

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a disorder that affects the structure of retinal blood vessels due to long-standing diabetes mellitus. The method presented in this paper is tested using standard images from the early treatment diabetic retinopathy study. The results are compared with digital fundus image using image processing techniques. Images of eight categories of various annotations and 10 images in each category have been used to test the consistency of the proposed algorithms. Cone density measurements were evaluated with ANOVA that consisted of one between-subjects factor, stage of retinopathy and the within-subject factors. The better side of the photographic pair was selected and images were evaluated again using the same procedure except using non-stereo (monoscopic) images (4W-M). For moderate non-proliferative or more severe DR the sensitivity was 100% for images captured both with and without pupil dilation.

The proposed approach is tested on the public databases DiaretDB1

Banish Bad Breath For Good

Most people know that eating garlic, onions, and other strong foods can cause bad breath. But did you indicate to the odiferous person that he or she was grossing you out? Is your tongue causing your breath to be less than fresh? Bad breath is caused by a variety of factors. What you eat affects the air you exhale, like garlic or onions. Respiratory issues – Any health issue that involves the lungs and breathing, can involve bad breath. Certain foods, such as garlic and onions, contribute to breath odor.

There are tactful (nice) ways of letting someone know about bad breath. Brushing, flossing and mouthwash only mask the odor. Xylitol, a natural sweetener, can prevent the growth of the bacteria that cause bad breath. If you are unsure whether or not your dog’s bad breath should be treated with a simple home remedy such as a dental chew or if it warrants a visit to the vet, there are a few indicators than can be watched out for to help you determine what your dog needs

Diabetes & Obesity | CAGs | King’s Health Partners

Cross-sectional study of patients on a centralized disease register invited for retinal screening during 2003. This is still perceived as the milder form, and while this may be true in some respects, such as the risk of ketoacidosis, the causation of Type 2 diabetes is more complex and the management is not necessarily easier. PPARɣ activation by glitazones leads to reduced insulin resistance, which has been useful for treating people with diabetes, but the receptor has many other functions that have not been studied as thoroughly in humans. Both subjects require a multidisciplinary approach, and researchers within the Division interact with each other, and with researchers across the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, to develop a focus on understanding Type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, especially of the gastrointestinal tract. The DAFNE teaching programme is delivered to groups of 6-8 participants by DAFNE-trained diabetes specialist
